In our modern society, the unthinkable happens. You’re at work, picking your child up from school, or shopping at the mall. You hear gunshots and screams — an active shooter has threatened your safety. What do you do?
For most of us, we don’t have a concrete answer, even though it’s a trending concern. With almost 400 mass shootings last year, this issue continues to plague our country and enter our daily lives.
SIS’s active shooter training gives your company an answer in crisis, and even more importantly, contributes to a safe, prepared workplace for every employee.
Security Industry Specialists provides unique security solutions for clients globally. With an incredible reputation for excellence, SIS has implemented this 1-2 hour class in partnership with Fortune 500 companies looking for a solution to the growing threat of active shooters. We work with organizations to customize the course based on their needs and specifications, focused on the every-day employee. Our training is important in preventing risk and handling situations if they do arise. By implementing our training, your company can feel confident that employees have the skills and knowledge they need to act safely and proactively.
The first step of our training is to inform a workplace on indicators for violence. We describe how to mitigate risk by establishing positive company policies and a safe, confidential work environment. Establishing a comfortable environment is the first step to alleviating any possible risk or conflict.
“We discuss indicators for violence in the course,” said SIS Training Manager Al Kuilan, “and establish a system for reporting issues, as well as getting employees help they may need. With a ‘see something, say something’ attitude, we promote discussion and observation for patterns and catalysts of violence or disruption.”
If a situation does escalate to violence, it is important to have a game plan, and know how to handle chaos successfully.
SIS’s class helps mentally prepare employees to proactively respond to an active shooter situation, using the “Run, Hide, Fight” method. Understanding how to assess the scene and deciding on one of these three options — along with where to run or hide — can save your life.
“We’re giving you the tools to understand and prepare for the mentality that you might have to fight to stay alive,” Kuilan said.
“Most people aren’t emotionally ready for that situation, but ultimately, you’re responsible for your own survival.”
With our customized, tailored classes, SIS’s innovative approach to a shooter situation insures your employees are prepared to face any security-related challenge.
